Dentures are removable appliances which help to restore your smile and also replace missing teeth with lifelike results. They are made of a combination of acrylics. Two types of dentures are available – complete which is used when all the teeth are missing to cover your entire upper or lower jaw and partial dentures which replace one or a few teeth.

It is a type of overdenture that is supported by and attached to implants.

It is used when the patient does not have any teeth in the jaw but has enough bone in the jaw to support implants. For patients with an uncomfortable or loose-fitting denture, stabilizing it with implants can be a more comfortable and functional solution.

It gives you more confidence when you talk, eat and smile.

Full & Partial dentures

Full dentures

These are permanent dentures that contain all the teeth. These artificial teeth and gums are shaped to your mouth in order to restore your lost teeth. Dentures can have such a natural look appearance especially the ones we offer at Dental Holiday Budapest.

They can be made up of porcelain or plastic, but modern dentures are generally made up of hard resin.

They not only improve the appearance of a smile but they are able to keep the structure of the mouth hence supporting the cheeks and the lips.

Partial dentures

A removable partial denture generally consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink base made of resin, connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. Not only does a partial denture fill the spaces created by the missing teeth, but it also prevents other teeth from moving. A partial denture has internal attachments to attach to the adjacent crowns.

  • Great function: dentures nowadays are designed to be comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and fully functional.
  • Versatility: dentures are available in numerous different types, including full or partial sets. Full dentures are ideal for patients wo have lost some or most of their teeth.
  • Aesthetics: our top-quality dentures are available in natural looking porcelain or plastic materials.
  • Health: dentures support facial muscles and structures and decrease oral bone loss. It also improves self-esteem in patients.
  • Cost: dentures are a cost effective treatment option, particularly when more natural teeth are present.

Although most of the disadvantages have been eliminated in modern dentistry, there are some concerns patients should be aware of when considering dentures. Dentures must be removed and cleaned regularly to avoid infections or disease including bad breath.

Implant supported dentures

Implant supported overdentures

If, implants are possible and the bone hasn’t receded too much then they can be used to support a denture. Known as implant supported dentures, they are dentures that snap in, in order to increase the stability of a lower or upper denture. The upper jaw requires more implants due to lesser bone density. They need to be removed and cleaned at night. Snap in dentures are great for those patients who are used to wearing dentures. Someone who is already used to wearing dentures will be very happy with this solution because the denture is held by the implants so there is a feeling of stability that do not exist with normal dentures. For snap in dentures, we can use 2 to 6 implants. The more implants, the more the patient will feel that the denture is stable and secure.

Denture alternatives such as dental implants can be used to support bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. You therefore avoid the pink plastic covering inside the mouth because you get small teeth with a natural look made of porcelain fused to metal or full porcelain. A fixed bridge is a better option for this situation, but sometimes a snap in denture can work well. The cost is usually higher but the implants and crown and bridge work look much more natural. All patients are not eligible for implants, your dentist will advise you on the possibilities taking also into consideration your budget.

  • Implant supported overdentures are a great option for patients who want a durable, non-removable denture.
  • Long term solution: implant supported overdentures will last your whole life with good oral hygiene.
  • No teeth falling out: overdentures allow you to chew without the concerns of loud cracking or dentures falling out. Once the implant is secured, it will hold your teeth in place. The teeth are securely fastened to your jaw like real teeth and thus can handle all kinds of foods.
  • Prevention off bone loss: with implant supported overdentures a patient’s jawbone is supported by implants. As a result, the patient’s face will not change shape at all unlike with conventional dentures. Because conventional dentures have no way of supporting the jaw, they allow the lack of teeth to significantly impact the shape of a person’s face.
  • Stability: they are more stable than regular dentures. It is a fixed denture therefore it will only be removed by a dental professional.

The only disadvantage could be the price as it is more expensive than a conventional denture.

Combination work

Combination work

The modern solution for removable tooth replacements is the combined prosthesis. The removable prosthesis is attached to the remaining teeth by precision mechanical fasteners, invisible from the outside.

It combines the characteristics of a removable prosthesis with the advantages of a fixed bridge. By realizing this solution, the remaining teeth are stabilized by a fixed bridge, to which is attached the removable prosthesis by discrete metal fasteners. In general, the combined prosthesis is chosen if there are enough frontal teeth and the molars are missing. Thanks to the discreet fixing, this type of replacement is very aesthetic. It is also stable and functional. We recommend it to patients who do not wish, or cannot be implanted, for medical or financial reasons.

The combined prosthesis is stable like a fixed bridge, it does not move and can only be removed for cleaning. Often patients think that missing teeth are not a problem until they are visible. Yet, a single missing tooth can already lead to complications. It is thus to emphasize that the replacement of the missing teeth is not only an aesthetic problem. It is important to reconstruct the dentition, which becomes more and more complicated over time.

Bridge on implants

Bridge on implants

Fully fixed tooth replacement on a toothless jaw is possible with a 12-crown bridge attached to 8 or 6 implants.

The complete bridge is fixed and stable because it is based on implants. Only the dentist can remove it. It is comfortable, and thanks to this solution you find the masticatory function of natural teeth. It is aesthetic with a natural appearance; It preserves the surrounding bone, prevents bone loss and reduction of the jaw. It is possible to replace the missing gingiva with an artificial gingiva, which makes it possible to achieve a uniform dentition. The implant-fixed bridge offers a reliable solution, designed to last for many years.

Dentures consist of a gum-colored base, which fits over the remaining alveolar (bone) ridge and its held in place primarly by the suctioning effect of their close fit against the alveolar ridges. The upper denture also gets extra support from the large surface of the roof of the mouth. It requires some getting used to in terms of talking and eating but over time the muscles, nerves and ligaments of the mouth will learn to work in new ways.

Dentures are just one option for replacing missing teeth,
some of the others include fixed bridgework and dental implants. We only use high quality materials to assure our patients’ satisfaction.
